We want to make Macular Week 2017, in our 30th anniversary year even bigger and better. With your support we can make this happen.
This year the theme of the week will be smoking and sight loss. Many people are aware that smoking causes lung cancer, but not many realise that it can also cause blindness. Smokers are up to four times more likely than non-smokers to develop age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and smokers with a genetic predisposition to AMD are eight times more likely to get the condition. Throughout the week we will be encouraging as many people as possible to raise awareness of the connection between smoking and your sight.
