Take steps to fundraise - why not challenge yourself

As we all try to stay safe and healthy during these unprecedented times, we’re calling on you, our amazing supporters, to step out for a Virtual Challenge – which can really help to maintain your physical and mental wellbeing – and step up to raise much needed funds.
Your fundraising support is vital, as we continue supporting the thousands of people who need us, via our non-face-to-face services, such as our telephone befriending, and advice and information services. This will help to alleviate the feelings of fear and isolation that many people will experience at this extremely difficult time.
Our new Step Challenge is very easy to do and you don’t need any special equipment.

Simply decide on the number of steps that you’d like to achieve each day and set yourself a time limit. This could be a week, a month or even longer. Then create a Just Giving page – nominating the Macular Society as your chosen charity – and set a sponsorship target.

Feel free to be as inventive as you like in achieve your step quota, especially if you don’t have a home running/rowing machine or an exercise bike. Running up and down the stairs, hoovering, dusting, mowing the lawn or even weeding, can all count towards your step total.
If you do choose to exercise outside, please ensure you do so safely, observing the current social distancing guidelines.
Most modern smartphones have a step counter app or you can usually add one free of charge via your phone provider’s app store. You can also use a dedicated step counter device or simply use a website activity-to-steps converter.

We’ll then email you our fundraising guide and record book to log your progress. Please note that due to the current restrictions, we are currently unable to send out running vests and t-shirts or other materials. Anyone raising over £100 will, however, be sent one of our Virtual Challenger medals, once things get back to normal.
Finally, a huge good luck! Keep in touch to let us know how you’re getting on and don’t forget to share your progress on social media, along with a link to your fundraising page. Everyone likes to hear some good news in these difficult times and you might just encourage others to get involved, too!
