The Macular Society is turning 30

Posted: Tuesday 20 December 2016

The start of 2017 marks an exciting time for the Society as we celebrate our 30th anniversary year.

A great deal of progress has been made since our founder, Elizabeth Thomas, established the Society in 1987. To mark our anniversary we have some exciting activities planned throughout the year, including the new Bear Grylls Survival Race and a firewalk.

Since the Society was formed by a small group of patients and eye consultants 30 years ago, we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people living with macular conditions and invested millions of pounds in medical research. We couldn’t have done any of this without the generosity of our members and supporters.

Our mission in 1987 was the same as it is today, to find a cure for macular disease in the future and provide rehabilitation and support now.

Full details of what we have achieved over the last 30 years, and what will be taking place to mark our milestone year, will be published in the spring edition of our Sideview magazine.

Meanwhile, if you'd like to get involved in our 30th birthday celebrations contact us via email or phone 01264 350551.
