Expert on PXE to host condition-specific webinar

Posted: Thursday 10 September 2020

The second in our series of condition-specific webinars will take place later this month - focussing on Pseudoxanthoma elasticum or ‘PXE’.

Following the success of our first condition-specific webinar with Professor Jeremey Guggenheim on myopic macular degeneration, we are looking forward to welcoming Professor Peter Issa to talk more about PXE - a disease affecting many parts of the body, including the eyes.

In the eyes, it causes cracks called ‘angioid streaks’ to form in Bruch’s membrane. Leaky blood vessels grow through these cracks, which can lead to sight loss.

Professor Issa is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon, from Oxford Eye Hospital and is a leading authority on this rare macular dystrophy, as well as other degenerative retinal diseases. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

The webinar is being held via Zoom on Thursday 24 September at 7pm. The waiting area will be open from 6:45pm with the session starting at 7pm.

If you would like any further information about the webinar contact Colin Daniels, working age and young peoples’ service manager by email.
