What are cone cells and why do they matter for our vision?

Cone dystrophy will be the focus of our next condition-specific Virtual Clinic this month - a condition which leads to loss of central and colour vision.

Professor Andrew Webster will be discussing his latest research on the topic and provide an insight into the important function of our cone cells and how and why they go wrong.

Cone dystrophy can be inherited in several ways, depending on which part of the gene has the mutation or mistake. Some are inherited dominantly, so appear in anyone who has one copy of the gene. Others are recessive, meaning that people may carry the faulty gene without developing any symptoms.
