A successful Macular Week 2016!

Posted: Wednesday 06 July 2016

A huge thank you to everyone who helped us mark Macular Week 2016.  The week was a big success, thank you to everyone who helped raise vital awareness of macular disease.

We kicked off the week with our Supercar driving day where people with macular conditions drove five different supercars. Many of our members, supporters, local support groups and eye care professionals, organised over 160 events and displays throughout the week to help spread the word in their local area.  A number of fundraising events were held too, including Tea 4 MD, bake sales, raffles and even a ‘White Stick’ Walk in Poole, Dorset.

Our Macular Week partners Vision Express visited several popular locations, including Wimbledon, with their Vision Van. The heart shaped sunglasses were also a hit, with many people taking pictures and sharing on our social media pages. Facebook and Twitter.

The week raised awareness of macular disease and the work of the Macular Society. We focused on the importance of eye health and the positive steps people can take to look after their eyes. We believe that empowering people with the right information is an effective way to encourage them to take action and also support the work that we do.  We very much look forward to next year!
