Posted: Monday 18 December 2017

The chief executive of the Macular Society Cathy Yelf has been appointed a trustee of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC).

The AMRC is a national membership organisation of leading medical and health research charities.

The organisation has 140 member charities, who spend over £1.6bn a year on research in the UK. The Macular Society became a member of the AMRC in 2015.

Carol Bewick, head of member engagement and communications at the AMRC, said: “I know I speak on behalf of all of my AMRC colleagues when I say we are delighted to welcome Cathy to the executive council. She was appointed by a membership vote, which shows how much she is valued across the sector. We are really looking forward to what she will bring to our discussions.”

Speaking of the appointment Cathy added: “It is an honour to become a member of the executive council of the AMRC. The AMRC does vital work supporting charities to deliver the highest quality of research to find new treatments and cures. The AMRC also helps show the huge impact of medical research charities; our research programmes help underpin the whole of the UK’s scientific and medical research base. I look forward to contributing to this important work.”
