New treatments go under the spotlight for 2023 conferencePosted: Thursday 29 June 2023
The first-ever treatment for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) will be one of the exciting topics under the spotlight at this year’s Macular Disease Conference – Hope for the Future.
Registration is now open to attend the free, virtual Macular Society conference, which returns in September with talks from the most renowned experts in macular disease research.
One of the many speakers to talk at the event is Dr Clare Bailey from Bristol Eye Hospital who will discuss the breakthrough treatments on the horizon, which could potentially treat late-stage dry AMD, also known as geographic atrophy.
The experts will also cover topics such as the impact of macular disease on our mental health and the link between diet and our eyes, meaning there is so much to look forward to at the Macular Disease Conference 2023.
There will be various sessions taking place online, between 9.15am-4pm on Saturday 16 September. Anyone attending the event will also have a chance to put their questions to the speakers.
Among the other speakers for this year’s conference are Professor Richard Gale of York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust who will shine light on the introduction of biosimilar drugs to the NHS. Dr Michael Crossland of Moorfields Eye Hospital will also talk about his work in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of patients with inherited retinal disease.
As well as sessions for those living with macular disease, there will also be a programme for those newly diagnosed as well as family members, friends and caregivers.
The full programme of talks, with timings, will be published in September.
