Join us in Beating Macular Disease
Are you looking for an opportunity to use your office management and organisational skills to make a real difference? Join the Macular Society and help us Beat Macular Disease by ensuring our office and facilities run smoothly and support our teams effectively.
About the Macular Society
Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK, with around 300 people diagnosed every day. We're the only UK charity determined to beat the fear and isolation of macular disease through:
- World class research to find new treatments and a cure
- Practical support for people affected by sight loss
- Trusted advice and support services that empower those living with macular disease
About the role
You’ll oversee day to day services that keep our office running smoothly, from contracts for services to all aspects of health and safety to cleaning, maintenance, and equipment orders. You’ll also support our office IT setup - ensuring meeting room equipment works, liaising with our IT and print providers, and managing small stock items.
This is a practical, hands-on role for someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and keeping things working behind the scenes.
If you are a hands-on problem solver, have experience in office, facilities or operations management and care about creating a positive and safe workplace for others, then we would love to hear from you.
As the governance and executive support officer, you will:
- Manage office facilities and service providers, including cleaning, maintenance, health and safety, and contracts with landlords or suppliers.
- Act as the main contact for repairs, maintenance, and office improvements, coordinating contractors and overseeing practical office needs.
- Support health and safety compliance, including fire safety, accident reporting, audits, and record-keeping.
- Manage office equipment, furniture, IT setup, meeting room technology, and stock, ensuring DSE compliance and efficient IT processes.
- Maintain a tidy, functional office environment that supports hybrid and flexible working, including safe disposal and recycling of old equipment.
- Collaborate with colleagues across teams to plan improvements, build strong working relationships, and create a positive office culture.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be:
- A hands-on problem solver with a practical, can-do approach, who takes pride in keeping things running smoothly.
- Experienced in managing office or facilities services, contractors, and supplier relationships, ideally within a charity or small organisation.
- Highly organised, able to prioritise, multitask, and respond effectively to urgent issues.
- Confident with technology, comfortable providing light IT support, and able to liaise with external IT partners.
- Knowledgeable about health and safety and building compliance, and committed to creating a safe, positive workplace.
- An excellent communicator and collaborator, with strong attention to detail and a values-driven approach aligned with the Macular Society.
