About the Macular Society
Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK, with around 300 people diagnosed every day. We're the only UK charity determined to beat the fear and isolation of macular disease through:
- World class research to find new treatments and a cure
- Practical support for people affected by sight loss
- Trusted advice and support services that empower those living with macular disease
About the role
We are seeking someone who can support our community engagement team to ensure groups and group volunteers have the resources they need to thrive. The candidate needs to have an open and collaborative approach and the ability to multitask and prioritise multiple projects and work streams.
As our peer support coordinator, you will:
- Support group volunteers across Scotland, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to thrive.
- Share macular-related information and advice with volunteers, members, partners, and stakeholders.
- Stay informed about local and national support services to provide accurate signposting and referrals.
- Coordinate and support online peer support across Scotland, including groups, events, and one-to-one connections.
- Ensure all peer support activities are inclusive, accessible, and meet the diverse needs of people with macular disease.
About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working with volunteers and supporting peer-led or community-based activities.
- A good understanding of the importance of peer support, connection, and lived experience.
- The ability to build strong, respectful relationships with volunteers, group members, and colleagues.
- Experience providing practical support with database updates, volunteer and group queries, and coordinating administrative tasks with the wider team.
- Knowledge of local Scottish health and social care support services.
This role is predominantly home-based; however, travel may be required across Scotland and occasionally to Andover in Hampshire.

In return, we provide a great working culture – we do something worthwhile and are proud to work together to Beat Macular Disease – as recognised by our inclusion in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2023 list.
