Virtual Clinic events to bring you closer to the experts

Experts in macular disease will be revealing the latest in treatments and research at the Macular Society’s annual conference, which this year will be taking place from the comfort of your own home.

Following the outbreak of the coronavirus the Society has taken the difficult decision to make this year’s event a virtual one, taking place on Saturday 12 September.

The virtual conference will have something for everyone, including tailored sessions for those with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) as well as for those with inherited retinal diseases and of working age.

Joining the event will be Dr Amanda Carr, from University College London who will talk about the use of stem cells to understand and treat inherited macular disease. Professor Andrew Lotery from the University of Southampton will also be joining the line up to update on ongoing clinical trials on AMD, central serous retinopathy and Stargardt disease. Cathy Yelf, chief executive of the Macular Society, said: “We are of course really disappointed not to be able to meet and speak with you in person this year. But after much thought, our staff and trustees have agreed it was in the best interests of everyone’s safety not to gather in Birmingham in September, even if restrictions are relaxed by then.

“We have a great line up of speakers and hope as many people as possible will join us to hear more about the progress being made to beat macular disease.”
