Experts share latest developments in treatment for macular disease

Groundbreaking research into Stargardt disease, the latest treatments for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and understanding the emotional impact of vision loss are just some of the topics to be explored at this year’s Macular Disease Conference ‘Hope for the Future’.

Renowned experts in macular disease research will come together to share their knowledge at the virtual event on Saturday 13 September.

Throughout the day, speakers will host a variety of sessions on the latest research, developments in research and practical and emotional support for those affected by macular disease. Many of the sessions will be followed by a live Q&A, giving attendees the chance to put their questions directly to the experts.

Age-related macular degeneration

Mr Luke Nicholson will be among the speakers, reporting on new research and treatments for both wet and dry AMD.

Dr Rachel Hanson will also join the expert line up to discuss how the brain and vision are connected, and how this relationship may influence future care.

Inherited retinal disease and working age

Dr Kenneth Fan will present current research on Stargardt disease, including updates on potential treatments currently being trialled.

Dr Annegret Dahlmann-Noor will follow with a session sharing the latest in research and treatments for adults with MMD (myopic macular degeneration).

My Macular and Me

The My Macular and Me programme is designed for people who have recently been diagnosed with any form of macular disease.

Associate Professor Winfried Amoaku will provide an introduction to macular disease, its causes, and current treatment options. Suzanne Roberts, from the Macular Society’s Counselling Service will speak about the emotional impact of macular disease and the support available.
