Fellowship grants
In 2025, the Macular Society launched a new fellowships programme to support mid-career researchers working in vision and macular disease research. These funded fellowships are designed to help researchers progress their careers while contributing to high-quality research that benefits people affected by macular conditions.
As part of this programme, the Macular Society works in partnership with leading research funders to offer jointly funded fellowship opportunities.
Joint funding partners
The Macular Society has entered into joint funding agreements with the following organisations:
Daphne Jackson Trust
The Daphne Jackson Trust supports researchers who have taken a career break of at least two years due to family responsibilities, caring commitments, or health reasons. Fellowships funded in partnership with the Daphne Jackson Trust are designed to help researchers return to a research career through a supported and flexible fellowship programme.
Medical Research Council
The Medical Research Council (MRC) collaborates with royal colleges and charity funders to offer jointly funded clinical research training fellowships. These fellowships support clinicians and researchers to develop their research skills alongside clinical training.
How to apply for a fellowship
Opportunities to apply for fellowships will be advertised by the Macular Society and our co-funding partners as they become available. Application guidance, deadlines and eligibility requirements will be outlined within each specific funding call.
