Telephone befriending

Our telephone befriending service may be especially helpful if you cannot get to one of our support group meetings but would like to talk to someone who has experience of macular disease.

It is not unusual for some people with macular disease to feel isolated, especially if it’s difficult to get out and about. However, there is no need to feel alone - our telephone befrienders provide friendship and can help to rebuild confidence and independence.

Rita, a befriending service user saying "What I find most beneficial about befriending is the friendship and reliability, the positivity and the encouragement. It's an extremely well-managed service."

Befrienders make regular calls and enjoy talking about lots of different things. You choose what you want to talk about, such as macular disease or your favourite hobbies or TV programmes.

We aim to find you a befriender who is local and shares your interests, experiences or type of macular disease.

If you are interested in using the telephone befriending scheme, please call the helpline on 0300 3030 111 or email help@macularsociety.org.

This project has been made possible thanks to support from the Big Lottery Fund.
