If you’re organising a collection at your loved one’s funeral or memorial service, we can help by providing:
- Discreet ‘in memory’ Gift Aid donation envelopes
- Cardboard collection boxes
- Information leaflets about macular degeneration
If an individual is a UK taxpayer, we can claim Gift Aid (currently 25%) on their donation at no extra cost to them. The donor completes a simple declaration, returns it to us and we do the rest. Our donation envelopes can be used for this, or you can download, complete and return this Gift Aid declaration. Please note that Gift Aid cannot be claimed on collections; only on individual donations accompanied by a declaration. Please write the name of the person you are remembering on the declaration.
You may also like to set up an online collection page. It can provide details of where and when the service will take place and make giving easier for those unable to attend in person. Family and friends will be able to add their own thoughts and messages about your loved one if you choose, and to donate securely in their memory.
Sending in the collection
Please ask for any cheques to be made payable to Macular Society, convert any cash to a cheque and send all cheques, donations envelopes and Gift Aid declarations to Debbie Smith, Macular Society, PO Box 1870, Andover SP10 9AD.
Please tell us the name of the person you are remembering, your relationship to them and their address if possible. This makes sure we add your gift to any others given in memory of your loved one and helps us keep an accurate record of donations for you and your family.
How we thank you
Once we receive your collection, we’ll write to thank you and let you know how much has been donated in total - we don't disclose the individual amounts given. Please note, we don't thank every individual donor to a collection. However, if you would like to send your own personal thanks, we will be pleased to give you some of our free thank you cards.
We’ll also thank any donors who send in their gift independently of your collection, if they give their contact details.
If your collection is sent in by a Funeral Director, we will thank you or another close family member as instructed by the firm. We'll also acknowledge receipt to the Funeral Director.
We do hope that you and your family gain comfort from knowing how much others will benefit because your loved one has been remembered in this very thoughtful way. Your kindness will make a real difference to others living with macular disease and help us fund vital research to find a cure.
