About our support groups
Peer support groups
We currently have a mixture of groups meeting face to face and/or via our telephone conference calling system. Either way its a wonderful way for people affected by macular disease to make friends and grow in confidence.
It’s a place to:
- hear about local services and other ways the Macular Society can help
- listen to interesting guest speakers
- share experiences and tips on living with sight loss
- understand your own macular disease better
Face to face support group in your local community
We have groups meeting in local venues all across the UK.
To search for your local group visit our local group page. Or contact your local regional manager detailed on our regions page or call our groups admin team on 01264 560 259.
Telephone support groups
We have various groups meeting over the telephone. Also, due to the pandemic, some of our face to face groups are opting to meet via our telephone conference calling system. In just an hour you’ll hear useful information, important updates and (most importantly) friendly voices. To find our more about these calls, also please contact the groups admin team on 01264 560 259.
Working Age and Young People’s (WA&YP) support
Our groups are for anyone over the age of 18. Younger people and people of working age often like to come together and share peer support and hear about specific advice and information about welfare, benefits, employment and access to work. If you are looking for advice on any of these subjects please either contact groups admin to find out if a group is meeting in your local area, or visit our Working Age and Young People support page.
Online condition-specific communities
Join an online community of people with the same type of macular disease as you. The society also has groups that are specific to particular types of macular disease. Online condition specific groups include:
Diabetic macular oedema group
Myopic macular degeneration group
Sorsby’s fundus dystrophy
For more information see our Online condition-specific communities page or contact Colin Daniels; colin.daniels@macularsociety.org or call the Advice and Information team on 0300 3030 111.

Find your local support group
